Ministering to the emotional needs of children touched by cancer and their families
Project Angel Hugs
Project Angel Hugs is an organization dedicated to putting a smile on the face of children battling cancer. In 1999, five-year-old Vanessa Jensema, was diagnosed with leukemia. She noticed that other kids in the cancer unit weren’t getting as many cards as she was.Due to that simple, but profound observation, Project Angel Hugs was born. We send cards and gifts to children fighting cancer across the country. Vanessa has since lost her battle, but her legacy lives on. The picture of Vanessa was taken August 5th, 2001, she passed away on August 6th at the age of seven.Project Angel Hugs was founded by the late Char Jensema Grider. The program has grown from Char’s dining room table, to her basement to 3 different locations in downtown Plymouth, WI.
The Board of Directors and Operations Manager of Project Angel Hugs are making sure that Char’s dream is realized. (We lost Char on August 26, 2012, when she was killed in a motorcycle accident.)
Project Angel Hugs is a (501c3) non-profit organization that endeavors to add a spark of laughter and fun to the life of children and their families that are touched by cancer. Through our programs, we reach out to children locally and all over the United States. Children located outside of the United States will be enrolled in our KISS Program.
